Our Story

What does chaYkra mean?

The word chaYkra stems from the sanskrit word ‘chakra’, which translates as the wheels of energy within the body. The brand name has a ‘Y’ in the middle, as representative of how yoga balances energy flows. Please see our story page to discover more.

How do we ensure quality garments?

By using organic fair trade cotton we ensure that our yoga garments are of the highest quality in terms of breathability and comfort. Compared with the synthetic alternatives commonplace in the yogawear market today, we pride ourselves on bringing a natural, more sustainable offering to our customers. The material really does speak for itself with a super soft feel and lightweight nature allowing skin to breathe more easily during yoga practice and for daily wear.

What makes our designs different?

Our clothing has been designed in line with the ‘Brindian’ identity of the brand founders. The brand aims to infuse classic British style with subtle Indian flair, creating a yogawear collection that is as stylish as it is comfortable.

Why Organic Cotton?

Organic cotton is an eco-friendly fabric that is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. This type of material is produced without harmful chemicals, insecticides and pesticides, while saving huge amounts of water in production when compared with conventional cotton. Please see our sustainability page for further detail about the environmental and social benefits of organic cotton.

What does it mean when Organic Cotton fabric is GOTS Certified?

GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) is recognised as the leading textile processing standard for organic fibre. We have chosen to use GOTS certified fabric because it is produced using no toxic chemicals, ensuring a healthier working environment for farmers and factory workers, and a higher-quality product for the end user. The GOTS label reassures customers that the product has been manufactured in a socially responsible, and environmentally compatible manner. For further information on GOTS, please visit http://www.global-standard.org

Where do our materials come from?

We source the majority of our organic cotton from the Chetna Organic co-operative which works with small and marginalised farmers from Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Odisha to help them improve their livelihood and make their farming systems more sustainable and profitable. For further information on Chetna Organic, please visit http://www.chetnaorganic.org.in

We also partner with another supplier who utilises local organic yarn to create our stunning garments.

What does being Fair Trade Certified mean?

All the cotton we use is certified as fair trade. This guarantees that farmers are paid a fair and consistent price for their cotton. Additionally, they benefit from a premium that allows them to invest in projects focused on social, environmental and economic development, which enhances their communities and aids in the fight against poverty.

Shopping our Products

How do I take care of my chaYkra clothes?

We provide a care card with each item purchased so you can refer to that guidance to care for your organic cotton garments. We recommend a cold wash for your garments with a mild detergent. Natural drying is best but if you have to use the tumble dryer then please apply the lowest heat seating. Please iron the clothes inside out on low heat and do not iron directly on the rubber logos.

How do I take care of my chaYkra mats?

Wash the mat by hand using only cold water and allow it to air dry in a shaded area. Prolonged sun exposure can fade the natural dyes. Avoid machine washing, as it may distort the mat's shape and will damage the natural weaves. Additionally, consider our Yoga Mat Cleaner, which contains calming essential oils and can be sprayed on the mat before wiping it dry.

How will my garments be packaged? Do you offer a gift wrapping service?

Every chaYkra purchase will be wrapped in our branded chaYkra tissue paper - a lovely gift for you or for a special person! At checkout, you can choose special gift wrap options for an extra cost, including our embroidered Yogi Tree of Life Pouch, Swirl Print Bag and branded Gift Boxes. Additionally, our juco tote is available for purchase as a standalone item in the shop.

How will I know whether the item I want is ‘In Stock’?

We will clearly mark any items that are ‘Out of Stock’ on our website. Please assume that everything is ‘In Stock’ unless otherwise indicated.

What are my payment options?

We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Maestro and JCB cards.

Are my payments secure?
